If you have children, or if you are a child reading this blog, you need the Sonicare for Kids toothbrush. I see quite a few children in my dental practice, and it is pretty safe to say
that most children aren’t great at brushing their teeth. Some children just don’t do it. Others do it, but they aren’t doing it correctly. For children in the first group, a
really cool toothbrush might provide the motivation they need. For children in the second group, the Sonicare for Kids helps children improve their brushing technique. Let me
review some of my favorite features.
1. The Timer. The timer is huge! The biggest problem for most children is that they just aren’t brushing their teeth long enough. They get a little toothpaste on the brush, move
it around for 20 seconds in their mouth, get that toothpaste taste everywhere, then spit it out and think they’re done. The timer built into the brush lets kids know they need to
keep going until the brush stops vibrating. The recommended amount of time to brush your teeth is two minutes for proper dental care. When the brush is brand new, the timer doesn’t go for two minutes.
Instead, it gradually increases to two minutes over a 90 day time span so children can work up to it. I love that!
2. The Handle. The handle is perfect for a small child’s hands. It is also designed for co-brushing, so that parent and child can brush teeth together. This is very difficult to
do with a regular toothbrush. With the Sonicare for Kids, it is easier to teach your child the right way instead of trying to explain or just doing it for them.
3. Two Power Modes. The power mode for 4-7 years old is a little bit lighter than the power mode for 7 years old and up. If you’ve never felt a Sonicare toothbrush, it is
incredibly smooth compared to the cheaply made battery powered brushes you might come across. Your child is much less likely to feel overwhelmed by something too powerful to use
and control with this brush.
I highly recommend this toothbrush to all parents. Learning excellent brushing habits early will help your child to take care of their dental health for years to come.
